Remember, there are units within our rank that you will need to work on at home and notify Sharon when they are complete.    Also, if your child has missed a den activity that is required for the Webelos badge, please complete it at home and notify Sharon.  I'm sure a lot of the items are complete, but without you letting us know, we can't mark it complete and award your child their patches and pins.

We have a few activities where we will need parent participation.  Our last meeting where Mr. Werber and Mr. Marzigliano led the activity was EXCELLENT.  We'll need more parents to help out in the next few months to get their ranks completed and have some great activities! Take a look at the book and let us know what you can do to help.  We will have a parent meeting over the summer, likely, to plan out the last few months.

Upcoming events - January

Happy New Year!

We look forward to seeing you and getting a big chunk of your Webelos activities completed together!

In December, in addition to the Toys for Tots and caroling service activities, we completed the Readyman Activity Badge and Artist Activity Badge.  Only two boys attended the Readyman event. Please make arrangements for your child to do these on his own as we will not specifically plan extra activities to meet the needs of those who missed.  The NWSBC will offer the Readyman badge again next year or you can talk to Sharon & Diane about a different activity from the book that will meet the Webelos requirements.

Our next den meeting will be January 9 at 7pm in the MAC Gym for Sports Night!!  We will start the meeting with a flag ceremony and the boys will have an opportunity to play a number of organized games (and earn a pin/beltloop!) with the pack and their families!! Please have your scout wear his cub scout tshirt.  If you need a new one or backup, please contact Kevin Ramirez to purchase.

In preparation for our January 15 meeting, please print and complete the Fitness Activity log for Requirements #3 & #4 and review the safety notebook (pullout booklet at the front of the Webelos Handbook) for requirement #1.  Our January 15 meeting will be at Mariano's at Northwest Highway and Dryden in Arlington Heights from 6:00-7:30pm.   Please have your scout wear his Cub Scout Uniform and bring along his completed Fitness Activity logs.

If your child will not be attending the event at Mariano's, please let Diane know ASAP.  It is not fair for Mariano's to commit an employee to spend time with us if we have low attendance.

Kindly review the upcoming February events.  Again, if you cannot attend, please let us know ASAP.  We will be pre-registering the kids for the Pinewood Derby so that there is not such a long wait on Saturday morning.  Also, the people at Mike's Bike's have committed time and resources to us on 2/12 - please let Diane know ASAP if you will or will not be able to attend.

See you next Friday!

Important Reminders for Friday/Saturday this week

A few important reminders...

Pack meeting Friday night at 7pm in the Life Center (not Cafeteria). Please bring an unwrapped new toy for Toys for Tots.  We will be making small gifts to bring along to the Lutheran Home residents.

On Saturday, we will meet at St. Peter at 8:30am for Caroling.  There is limited parking at the Lutheran Home, so we will carpool everyone over.

For Saturday afternoon, if you have not yet registered for the 1pm Readyman event at the council office, please do so.  This fulfills a number of requirements for the Webelos.

On a sad note...
Diane Marzigliano's mom, Chris' grandma, passed away last weekend.  Many of you may have met her as she has joined us for Den and Pack meetings in the past.  The wake and funeral are Fri/Sat.  Please keep them in your prayers.

December Events

Hello all!
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We have a lot of fun activities coming up and are so thankful to get to share them with your boys!

Next weekend is a busy one...
We will start out with a pack meeting on Friday 12/5.  We will be collecting unwrapped new toys to donate for Toys for Tots.  Anything is is good - a barbie, a deck of cards a board game, etc (not stuffed animals).  It doesn't have to be an expensive - a few smaller items is probably even better.

On Saturday morning (12/6), we'll be caroling at the Lutheran Home.  Further details will come out about this, but plan on 9am in full Cub Scout uniform.  Please remember, they keep it warm in there, so the boys may not want to wear a long sleeve shirt under their uniform shirt.

On Saturday afternoon (12/6) at 1pm, The Boy Scout Office in Mt Prospect is hosting a Readyman Activity Badge event. If you haven't registered for this event, please do ASAP.  Space is limited.

On Saturday 12/13, we'll be completing the Artist Activity Badge in West Dundee.  Please let Diane know if you'll be attending.  We also encourage you to print the Fitness Activity log before or around the holidays - your scout will need a week to complete it at home before the January meeting.

Please take some time to review the upcoming events page - we have just about everything posted for the remainder of the year.

November Den 5 Activities

We have so much going on this month - pretty much all in one weekend!!  Please see the schedule below. The Upcoming Events page on our blog has almost the entire schedule through May! You'll also see updates to our Achievement Plan - that page will lay out what we are trying to achieve, what we need to achieve it and how we plan to get there.  This may need a bit more tweaking, but you'll get the idea.  Please take a few moments to read through your book as much of the information the boys will need is in there.

As for the activities - please RSVP to Diane asap to let us know if you'll be joining us or not.  If you are not joining, please be sure to complete the activity at home and let Sharon know as each thing we have planned meets an important Webelos requirement.

The Arrow of Light Boy Scout activities - Boy Scout Troop 37 has invited the Webelos to join them for a meeting and some outdoor activities; both of these fullfill important Arrow of Light requirements that you won't be able to complete on your own. Please try to make some or all of the weekend's activities.

Geologist Activty Badge

You are invited to earn your Geologist Activity Badge thru this fun field trip we have planned!!

Geologist program-Discover the geological processes that shape our world and learn about the rock cycle. Become a geologist by performing some of the same tests that are done in the field by professionals.

Date- Nov. 13
Time: 5:00-7:00
Location: Spring Valley Nature Center - 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg
Cost: ~$10 (depending on total attendees)

Please R.S.V.P. to Diane by Oct. 28th.

REMINDERS FOR THE PARENTS
RSVPs - It takes a lot of time for Diane and Sharon to research and plan these events and it is very frustrating and discouraging when you don't RSVP in a timely way or at all.  Please keep in mind that when we send out meeting notices/invitations, we need you to respond to every event asap.

Behavior - Please remind your kids to have appropriate behavior during meetings and on field trips.  Our last event was very interesting and our guide had incredible patience - however, several of the boys were not staying with the group and had to be reminded several times to pay attention and stop talking, rough-housing and generally fooling around.  They are old enough now that they should know how to behave and be respectful of adults who are talking and trying to teach them something.  Again, very frustrating and discouraging for the leaders when we have to spend the entire event reminding boys to act appropriately.

God & Me Class

Reminder: Please RSVP to Diane for Thursday's Forester Program at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg at 5pm (rain or shine!)

A note from Becky Bertermann regarding God & Me class...
Hello Cub Scout families!!

It is not too late to sign up for the God and Me 4:00-5:00 p.m. (2nd and 3rd grades) and God and Family 5:00-6:00 p.m. (4th and 5th grades) classes.

Classes start October 22 and are on each Wednesday through November 12th.

A workbook will be needed for each scout. The cost of the book is $4.50. I have picked up 10 books for each class to cover both AHG and cub scouts so there are a few extra. If you have paid your child's name will have a post-it on the book and Pastor Roggow will have the books on the first day of class. If you haven't paid me that is okay. Extra books will be left with Pastor Roggow and you can pay him since I will be out of town the first week of class. I can pick up more books when I get back.

I wasn't at the Pack meeting last week so if you paid for a book let me know.

Room location for classes to be determined. If you don’t hear from me then ask at the security desk upon arriving.

If your child is in Aftercare at St. Peter, please let me know and also make arrangements with them to notify them of the time of the class and to get your child to the class.

Forester Program Rescheduled

New date is next Thursday, October 9 from 5:00-7:00
Due to the impending bad weather on Thursday, we were forced to reschedule the Forester Program at the Spring Valley Nature Center.  Of course, the rain didn't show up until later, but out of an abundance of caution of having the boys and parents out during what was supposed to be pretty bad weather, we had to make a judgement call earlier in the day.

Forester Program- Identify local trees and plants and discover their uses. Learn about the woodlands of Northern Illinois and how they differ from forests
Date: Oct.9th
Time: 5:00-7:00
Location: Spring Valley Nature Center - 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg
Cost: $5-10 (depending on how many kids register)

Please contact Diane and let her know, either way, if you'll be attending the Geologist Program on Thursday, November 13.

Field trip this Thursday

Reminder!
We have our Forester program coming up on Thursday of this week (see the details below).  The folks at Spring Valley have said it works out best as a drop-off program.  We will, of course, still have 2 leaders in attendance in addition to the Spring Valley staff to keep an eye on everyone.   As the program will be outside, please have your child dress appropriately for the weather.  Based on RSVPs, it looks like the event will be $9-10ea.  Please bring cash for Diane as she's already paid the flat fee. If you have not yet RSVP'd and would still like your child to attend, please let Diane know - there is still room.

Finally, if you have not already RSVPd for the Nov 13th Geologist event, please contact Diane. This looks like a very cool, hands-on event!  We appreciate your prompt RSVPs to all events as it takes quite a bit of time to research and arrange the activities to fit the needs of our Webelos.  When our den does not respond (yes or no), this is a big waste of our time and very discouraging.  If a different method of communication is needed, please let us know.
