A few important reminders...
Pack meeting Friday night at 7pm in the Life Center (not Cafeteria). Please bring an unwrapped new toy for Toys for Tots. We will be making small gifts to bring along to the Lutheran Home residents.
On Saturday, we will meet at St. Peter at 8:30am for Caroling. There is limited parking at the Lutheran Home, so we will carpool everyone over.
For Saturday afternoon, if you have not yet registered for the 1pm Readyman event at the council office, please do so. This fulfills a number of requirements for the Webelos.
On a sad note...
Diane Marzigliano's mom, Chris' grandma, passed away last weekend. Many of you may have met her as she has joined us for Den and Pack meetings in the past. The wake and funeral are Fri/Sat. Please keep them in your prayers.

December Events
Hello all!
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We have a lot of fun activities coming up and are so thankful to get to share them with your boys!
Next weekend is a busy one...
We will start out with a pack meeting on Friday 12/5. We will be collecting unwrapped new toys to donate for Toys for Tots. Anything is is good - a barbie, a deck of cards a board game, etc (not stuffed animals). It doesn't have to be an expensive - a few smaller items is probably even better.
On Saturday morning (12/6), we'll be caroling at the Lutheran Home. Further details will come out about this, but plan on 9am in full Cub Scout uniform. Please remember, they keep it warm in there, so the boys may not want to wear a long sleeve shirt under their uniform shirt.
On Saturday afternoon (12/6) at 1pm, The Boy Scout Office in Mt Prospect is hosting a Readyman Activity Badge event. If you haven't registered for this event, please do ASAP. Space is limited.
On Saturday 12/13, we'll be completing the Artist Activity Badge in West Dundee. Please let Diane know if you'll be attending. We also encourage you to print the Fitness Activity log before or around the holidays - your scout will need a week to complete it at home before the January meeting.
Please take some time to review the upcoming events page - we have just about everything posted for the remainder of the year.

November Den 5 Activities
We have so much going on this month - pretty much all in one weekend!! Please see the schedule below. The Upcoming Events page on our blog has almost the entire schedule through May! You'll also see updates to our Achievement Plan - that page will lay out what we are trying to achieve, what we need to achieve it and how we plan to get there. This may need a bit more tweaking, but you'll get the idea. Please take a few moments to read through your book as much of the information the boys will need is in there.
As for the activities - please RSVP to Diane asap to let us know if you'll be joining us or not. If you are not joining, please be sure to complete the activity at home and let Sharon know as each thing we have planned meets an important Webelos requirement.

Geologist Activty Badge
You are invited to earn your Geologist Activity Badge
thru this fun field trip we have planned!!
Geologist program-Discover the geological processes that shape our world
and learn about the rock cycle. Become a geologist by performing some of the
same tests that are done in the field by professionals.
Date- Nov. 13
Time: 5:00-7:00
Location: Spring Valley Nature Center - 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg
Cost: ~$10 (depending on total attendees)
Please R.S.V.P. to Diane by Oct. 28th.
REMINDERS FOR THE PARENTS
RSVPs - It takes a lot of time for Diane and Sharon to research and plan these events and it is very frustrating and discouraging when you don't RSVP in a timely way or at all. Please keep in mind that when we send out meeting notices/invitations, we need you to respond to every event asap.
Behavior - Please remind your kids to have appropriate behavior during meetings and on field trips. Our last event was very interesting and our guide had incredible patience - however, several of the boys were not staying with the group and had to be reminded several times to pay attention and stop talking, rough-housing and generally fooling around. They are old enough now that they should know how to behave and be respectful of adults who are talking and trying to teach them something. Again, very frustrating and discouraging for the leaders when we have to spend the entire event reminding boys to act appropriately.

God & Me Class
Reminder: Please RSVP to Diane for Thursday's Forester Program at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg at 5pm (rain or shine!)
A note from Becky Bertermann regarding God & Me class...
Hello Cub Scout families!!
It is not too late to sign up for the God and Me 4:00-5:00 p.m. (2nd and 3rd grades) and God and Family 5:00-6:00 p.m. (4th and 5th grades) classes.
Classes start October 22 and are on each Wednesday through November 12th.
A workbook will be needed for each scout. The cost of the book is $4.50. I have picked up 10 books for each class to cover both AHG and cub scouts so there are a few extra. If you have paid your child's name will have a post-it on the book and Pastor Roggow will have the books on the first day of class. If you haven't paid me that is okay. Extra books will be left with Pastor Roggow and you can pay him since I will be out of town the first week of class. I can pick up more books when I get back.
I wasn't at the Pack meeting last week so if you paid for a book let me know.
Room location for classes to be determined. If you don’t hear from me then ask at the security desk upon arriving.
If your child is in Aftercare at St. Peter, please let me know and also make arrangements with them to notify them of the time of the class and to get your child to the class.

Forester Program Rescheduled
New date is next Thursday, October 9 from 5:00-7:00
Due to the impending bad weather on Thursday, we were forced to reschedule the Forester Program at the Spring Valley Nature Center. Of course, the rain didn't show up until later, but out of an abundance of caution of having the boys and parents out during what was supposed to be pretty bad weather, we had to make a judgement call earlier in the day.
Forester Program- Identify local trees and plants and discover their uses.
Learn about the woodlands of Northern Illinois and how they differ from forests
Date: Oct.9th
Time: 5:00-7:00
Location: Spring Valley Nature Center - 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg
Cost: $5-10 (depending on how many kids register)Please contact Diane and let her know, either way, if you'll be attending the Geologist Program on Thursday, November 13.

Field trip this Thursday
Reminder!
We have our Forester program coming up on Thursday of this week (see the details below). The folks at Spring Valley have said it works out best as a drop-off program. We will, of course, still have 2 leaders in attendance in addition to the Spring Valley staff to keep an eye on everyone. As the program will be outside, please have your child dress appropriately for the weather. Based on RSVPs, it looks like the event will be $9-10ea. Please bring cash for Diane as she's already paid the flat fee. If you have not yet RSVP'd and would still like your child to attend, please let Diane know - there is still room.
Finally, if you have not already RSVPd for the Nov 13th Geologist event, please contact Diane. This looks like a very cool, hands-on event! We appreciate your prompt RSVPs to all events as it takes quite a bit of time to research and arrange the activities to fit the needs of our Webelos. When our den does not respond (yes or no), this is a big waste of our time and very discouraging. If a different method of communication is needed, please let us know.

Popcorn Selling Time
Diane did an amazing job putting together site sales for our Den and the rest of the pack! Please be sure to sign up for your popcorn site sale time here. With the new policy regarding fundraising participation, this is a great and easy way to pull your weight! Each scout is required to donate $70 to the pack or sell $175 worth of popcorn.
Please take a moment to read all the popcorn details on our new Pack website. I will try to get our schedule as well as the Pack schedule updated on our various blogs. You should receive an email once a day as the pages are update. Feel free to leave a comment if something works or is unclear.

Pack 37 Kickoff!
Pack Meeting
Friday, 9/5 will be our first Pack Meeting of the year! We will start with registration for the new year at 6:30pm and the Pack Meeting will be at 7pm in the St. Peter Cafeteria.
Please bring the annual registration forms that Kevin Ramirez sent out recently and a check for your registration. We will have registration for the campout as well and we will be asking that you write a separate check for the camp out registration.
Popcorn
We will have announcements regarding our Popcorn sale at the Pack Meeting. This year, as a Pack, we will be adopting a new policy in regards to how much each scout sells. In order to make us stronger financially as a Pack, we will be requiring scouts to either sell popcorn or make a donation to the Pack. This spreads the responsibility of fundraising to the entire pack. The requirements for sales are as follows:
There will be lots of opportunities to sell popcorn and Diane Marzigliano set up several site sales for the Pack, so we feel these are realistic goals that put us in alignment with the policy that Boy Scout Troop 37 follows. Thank you for your understanding of the new policy and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Tying it Up is a Wrap!
Today's meeting was very informative and well run by Nathan, Torian and Haakon. The boys earned their Tying it Up Achievement in it's entirety. In addition to whipping a rope and tossing to a target, they boys learned half-hitch, slip-knot, bowline, square knot and sheet bend. Here is a great site that shows a bunch of knots as well as some animations.
Diane is holding onto the ropes we used today so that the boys can practice together during upcoming meetings. On the way home from the meeting, Charlie and I stopped at True Value Hardware store and picked up a rope for him to use to practice. They'll cut it to length for you for 39 cents/foot - we got 3 feet, but I would recommend 4 feet if you'd like to do the bowline knot.
Reminders:
Please be sure to check out the new Achievements page as well as the Upcoming Events!
